Nancy and Sam Juhasz live just outside Massillon, Ohio in Jackson Township where they have resided for over 30 years. Sam is retired from Republic Engineered Products in Massillon. Nancy is retired from Mercy Medical Center where she was employed as an X-ray technician. They have been enjoying the art of stained glass for approximately 14 years. Their first stained glass class was a course offered through Sam’s place of employment. They have taken several week long classes from the top fused glass teachers in the United States. At this time they do approximately 10 to 12 Arts shows a year, give private lessons, and do custom work.
Their art forms include both stained and fused glass Stained glass construction is where the piece edges are wrapped in copper foil then soldered together with solder using a soldering iron which reaches
temperatures over 500 degrees F. to melt the solder. The pieces have been cut and the edges ground to fit before the foiling or leading is done in the construction of the piece. The process of fusing glass uses a kiln where the temperatures reach from 1200 to 1700 degrees F. The glass has to be cut to shape and any design is put on the glass before it is fired. This firing process in many cases takes several firings to get the design and shape wanted for that piece.
Through the years the couple have enjoyed many relaxing hours doing their art form of stained and fused glass. They hope that others enjoy their work as much as they have enjoyed making it. They welcome questions about their modality.
